Chaplaincy Commissioning Mass

St Chad’s Cathedral – Tuesday 26th September 2017

On Tuesday 26th September Mr Tucker, Mr Wileman, Mrs Enticknap and Fran, joined by Fr Naz, accompanied a wonderful group of students, representing all year groups, to a special Chaplaincy Commissioning Mass at our Diocesan Cathedral St Chad’s in Birmingham, celebrated by Archbishop Bernard Longley. In this Mass Lay Chaplains from across our archdiocese renewed their commitment to the Mission of the Church and both staff and students were commissioned and received a special blessing and God’s grace to continue this important work.

Archbishop Bernard Longley thanked all the young people for their faithfulness and courage in sharing their faith in their school communities. Our Sixth form Chaplaincy rep Brandon Finch said “it was an honour to accompany younger students from St Greg’s to this Mass and it was wonderful to get to know them and share fellowship with them.”

Our year 7s and 11s enjoyed the music and choice of hymns, “they were modern and beautiful.” Michelle thought the cathedral had beautiful stain glass windows! Our year 8s enjoyed meeting Arch Bishop Bernard Langley, Duane got star struck at meeting someone so important in the Church while Cillian thought he was a cool down to earth guy!

Lilly in year 9 enjoyed seeing students from other school reading and praying in the Mass, “it was interesting to see all the different school uniforms, ours is not that bad after all”! Kauan year 9 liked seeing Fr Michael Doleman, a priest he remembers from Alton Castle who he has not seen for some time. Julianna in our Sixth Form enjoyed being with other young people from across the archdiocese “you know you are not alone in your faith, there are lots of others just like us”!

The staff could not be prouder of the way the students conducted themselves and they look forward to working together in this new academic year building the Kingdom of God in St Gregory the Great.
